Importance of Web quest

What is web quest?


A web quest is an assignment which asks students to use the World Wide Web to learn about and/or synthesize their knowledge a specific topic. A “true” web quest, as originally designed by Bernie Dodge and Tom March, requires synthesis of the new knowledge by accomplishing a “task,” often to solve a hypothetical problem or address a real-world issue. Simpler web activities designed for students to investigate and collect new knowledge from web-based sources can also be a more engaging and effective replacement for read-the-chapter-and-complete-the-review-questions. This tutorial will walk you through the basics to create a simple or more elaborate activity.



How will the Web Quest help the learners and teachers?



First and for most,web quest is very useful in both teachers and students in terms of learning.By using Web quest in teaching process, students become involved in knowledge construction by proposing solutions to a real life problem, situation, or authentic tasks. It helps them develop skills for living in a knowledge-based, highly technological society. By bringing real-life context and technology to the curriculum through a project-based learning approach, students are encouraged to become independent workers, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners. Webquest is not just a way of learning, but also a way for students to work together. If students learn to take responsibility for their own learning, they will form the basis for the way they will work with others in their adult life.Webquest also allows teachers to systematically document a student’s progress and development. In the teacher's part, it helps their work become more easier at the same time meaningful learning and teaching process.


Will it applicable to the Philippines?



In my own perception regarding that particular issue about the application of the Web Quest here in Philippines,well,honestly my answer is yes...it would be applicable in our country in terms of education because it will help help teaching and learning process more effective.We cannot deny the fact that their is the rampant use of computers nowadays,so in that case,web quest is more useful to us as direct beneficiary of this new software.By using this kind of learning activity,teachers can easily monitor the learning development of the students.
